Saint Xavier announces Board of Trustee changes
New chair, vice chair and two new trusteees named
Chicago (July 5, 2006) – The Board of Trustees at Saint Xavier University elected a new chair and vice chair at its winter meeting, and elected two new members during its spring meeting.
Board Chair Thomas E. Chomicz and Vice Chair Patricia A. Morris took office at the spring Board meeting. Kimbal T. Goluska and Sister Gilmary Bauer, R.S.M., joined the Board as new Trustees, effective July 1.
A Trustee since 2002, Chomicz is a partner in the law firm Quarles and Brady, L.L.C. where he specializes in tax-exempt organizations, taxation and estate planning. Most recently he has worked with congressional representatives to pass legislation, modify industry regulations and obtain private rulings from the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of a consortium of tax-exempt organizations.
Active in the legal community, Chomicz is a member of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association and co-chairs the Forms, Rulings and Administrative Developments Committee. He has served as the chairman of the Private Foundation Subcommittee and co-chair of the Joint Ventures Subcommittee. Chomicz is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association.
Chomicz, of Beverly, earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of St. Thomas and a juris doctor degree from the University of Minnesota. He is also a certified public accountant.
Morris, a Trustee since 2001, is a licensed clinical psychologist at Hoover and Associates in Orland Park, specializing in individual and group therapy with adults, children and families. Previously, she was an instructor at DePaul University and an associate professor at Saint Xavier University, where she coordinated the development of the master’s program in counseling psychology.
Morris, of Park Ridge, earned a bachelor’s degree from Saint Xavier in 1983, and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from DePaul University. Morris holds membership in the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association, where she is chair of the Continuing Education Committee. She and her husband, Jim, have been co-chairs of the University’s President’s Club and have matched the class gift since 2001.
Goluska, of Chicago, is president of The Chicago Consultants Studio, Inc., a master development group specializing in urban design initiatives. He has a bachelor of arts in geography and urban planning from Northwestern University and a graduate certificate from the Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design.
Bauer, of Hamtramck, Mich., is president of the Sisters of Mercy, Regional Community of Detroit. She has a master’s in divinity from the Yale University Divinity School, took law courses at the University of Detroit Law School, and has a bachelor of arts degree in history and English from Mercy College of Detroit.
Saint Xavier’s Board of Trustees is comprised of 26 men and women, including alumni, Sisters of Mercy, business and civic leaders, and faculty from other Catholic institutions. The Board is charged with oversight of Saint Xavier’s campuses in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood and Orland Park.
