President Judith A. Dwyer in American Executive Magazine

Featured in "Corporate Spotlight" column

Chicago (July 13, 2006) – Saint Xavier University President Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D., was featured in the June issue of American Executive Magazine, discussing fund-raising efforts, the master campus plan and investments in technology.

In a story titled “Strong Campaign” in the magazine’s Corporate Spotlight section, Dwyer discussed the challenges of fundraising for a midsized school in a big city.

“The projects we have put together are extremely ambitious and will require a significant amount of money. It’s always a challenge, especially in Chicago, because there are so many universities and cultural centers with capital campaigns and fundraising efforts going on,” Dwyer said in the article.

The magazine notes that fundraising efforts have been a top priority at the university to help support a dynamic 10-year master campus plan, which includes upgrading many of the university’s facilities. The plan calls for a new library and science building as well as renovated space for the music and arts department, among other things.

“We want to provide our students and faculty with the most state-of-the-art opportunities. We can’t start all of these projects at once, but we decided that constructing a new library and science center was where we wanted to begin,” Dwyer stated in the article.

To complement Saint Xavier’s master campus plan, Dwyer is heavily investing in technology, the article states. The university spends $4 million of a $70 million operating budget each year toward funding technology labs as well as wireless areas on campus.

“In fairness to our students, we need to prepare them for the world in which they will be working, and to do that, they need to have a good understanding of technology and the opportunity it provides,” Dwyer said in the article.
