Saint Xavier climbs in U.S. News rankings for 2007

Academic standards, faculty resources also on the rise

Chicago (Aug. 18, 2006) – Saint Xavier University is ranked in the top 25 percent in U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 rankings of Best Colleges in the Midwest offering undergraduate and master’s degrees.

In the annual rankings, Saint Xavier moved up five places, from 41 last year to 36 this year, among 142 institutions in the Midwest. It is ranked fifth among all master’s comprehensive universities in Illinois.

“Our forward movement in the rankings is further evidence that Saint Xavier University is making progress in becoming a leading comprehensive Catholic university in the greater Midwest,” said University President Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D.

“As we celebrate our 160th anniversary, it is especially poignant to know that the Sisters of Mercy mission of service to its students and the community continues to thrive,” she said. Saint Xavier has moved up 10 places since Dwyer became president in October 2003.

U.S. News bases its rankings on academic reputation, financial resources, graduation and retention, student selectivity, faculty resources, and alumni giving.

“I believe our continued rise in the rankings stems from the continued rise in our students’ level of preparation and the University’s commitment to providing resources and services that support student enrichment and success,” said Kathleen Carlson, vice president for research, planning and assessment.

Saint Xavier University is a private, coeducational institution serving approximately 5,800 students with high-quality academic programs. It offers 36 undergraduate majors and 32 graduate program options in five schools: School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, Graham School of Management, School of Nursing and School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
