Film series continues Nov. 14
Chicago (Oct. 27, 2006) – A screening of Atom Egoyan’s 1997 film The Sweet Hereafter is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Saint Xavier University’s McGuire Hall, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
The screening, which is free and open to the public, is part of the 2006-2007 annual SXU Film Series, whose theme this year is Cinema of the Americas.
The Sweet Hereafter is the story of a small Western Canadian community that is torn apart by a tragic accident that kills most of the town’s children. Ian Holm plays a lawyer who visits the victims’ parents to persuade them to launch a class-action lawsuit. The community is paralyzed by its anger and cannot let go. Meanwhile, one young girl who was left in a wheelchair from the accident, played by Sarah Polley, finds the courage to lead the way to the sweet hereafter.
The film is 112 minutes and will be projected by DVD. The series is sponsored by the School of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Art and Design, and the Illinois Arts Council. For more information, please contact Alison Fraunhar at firstname.lastname@example.org or (773) 298-3083.
