Eileen Quinn Knight chosen to speak at Oxford Round Table

SXU professor travels to England to give presentation on Chicago charter school

Chicago (Jan. 16, 2007) – Eileen Quinn Knight, professor of education at Saint Xavier University, has been accepted to speak at the Oxford Round Table in March.

Founded in 1989, the Round Table meets periodically in Oxford, England, to consider major issues in contemporary educational policy in the United States, the United Kingdom and other selected countries. The subject of Knight’s presentation will be Chicago’s ACE Technical Charter High School.

“This is an opportunity to share the history, structure, curriculum and governance of ACE Tech Charter High School,” Knight said. “It is a great model of how a focused high school education engages the student in the life of the school and the life of work.”

Knight has taught in the Saint Xavier University School of Education for 20 years. She is an expert on methods for teaching math, statistics for educators and law enforcement, and the foundations of education. She works for several foundations, including the Golden Apple Foundation and the Music and Arts Grants of the Union League Club. In the 2004-05 academic year, Knight was assigned to the board of directors of ACE Tech, one of the charter schools for Mayor Richard M. Daley's Renaissance 2010 initiative.

“Dr. Knight is truly a professional dedicated to improving educational opportunities for all students,” said Beverly Gulley, dean of Saint Xavier’s School of Education. “She is an active presenter at many professional conferences and continues to give of her time and talents to the educational community. Her many contributions benefit the students in our schools and those who are preparing to become teachers.”
