Saint Xavier’s School of Nursing helps give 600 women heart screenings

SXU participated in National Woman’s Heart Day Health Fair

Chicago (Feb. 21, 2007) – Saint Xavier University’s School of Nursing faculty and students conducted heart screenings for roughly 600 women, with more than 2,500 attending the daylong National Woman’s Heart Day Health Fair on Friday, Feb. 16, in the lobby of the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

The event, sponsored by the Sister to Sister: Everyone Has a Heart Foundation Inc., offered free screenings to measure body mass index and test blood pressure, blood glucose and total cholesterol as well as HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Participants received instant results and a personal health consultation conducted by advanced-practice nurses from the School of Nursing.

“The National Woman’s Heart Day Health Fair is a valuable and, in many cases, lifesaving event that encourages thousands of people around the country to take steps toward better health,” said Anne Bavier, dean of Saint Xavier’s School of Nursing. “We are deeply proud to have played a role in this year’s fair as the only school of nursing in any of the 16 participating cities to be a screening partner with Sister to Sister.”
