SXU Gallery features Harold Schlotzhauer Sept. 26
Digital prints created with a variety of mixed media on display
Chicago (Sept. 11, 2007) – The works of artist Harold Schlotzhauer will be featured in “Objects in Motion,” which opens Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the SXU Gallery at Saint Xavier University, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 16, will display Schlotzhauer’s digital prints that incorporate mixed media materials and print surfaces. Schlotzhauer first imported an original line drawing to the computer and then manipulated the lines using a selection of program tools or a drawing tablet. He used a variety of print surfaces for his work, including paper, wood, aluminum and bamboo mats. He described the actual process as “a more traditional printmaker’s approach to layering as each print passed through the printer two to five times, giving a rich quality of surface to each image.”
Schlotzhauer calls his work “a journey to a place created by the imagination and influenced by the extreme polarities of objective and non-objective configuration. It is a world of energy, movement and change where the viewer can engage in complex relationships relative to nature without the pictorial dogma of absolute representation.”
An opening reception and lecture by Schlotzhauer will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 26, in the SXU Gallery in the Warde Academic Center.
Schlotzhauer earned his master of fine art from the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, Cal. He is a professor at Montana State University, where he teaches courses in painting.
The exhibit is partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. The SXU Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, please contact the Saint Xavier University art department at (773) 298-3081.
