Saint Xavier University hosts annual Homecoming and Family Week Oct. 1-7

Kick off the fall semester with weeklong festivities

Chicago (Sept. 18, 2007) � Saint Xavier University will host a rich array of events for students, faculty, alumni and friends as part of its annual Homecoming and Family Week celebration Oct. 1 to 7.

�We hope alumni will come back to reunite with classmates, faculty and friends and revisit our expanding campus,� said Jamie Manahan, director of alumni and parent relations at Saint Xavier. �Alumni, parents and friends of Saint Xavier are an integral part of our rich tradition. We hope Homecoming weekend is an opportunity for them to come back, and look forward to a bright future for Saint Xavier University.�

All Homecoming and Family Week events are open to the public and will be held at Saint Xavier�s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Events are as follows: 
� Oct. 2: Networking 101: Making the SXU Connection, 6:30 p.m., Butler Reception Room. Learn and practice effective networking skills with alumni professionals to gain a competitive edge in the job market.  

� Oct. 3: The Squeaky Weal Series, 6:30 p.m., Butler Reception Room. Political pundit Paul M. Green will give a lecture titled �Governing Chicago: Its History from a Moral Perspective.� Director of the Institute for Politics and Arthur Rubloff professor of policy studies at Roosevelt University, Green has authored several books and articles about Illinois and Chicago politics. He is a political analyst for WGN Radio 720 (AM), host of the program �Paul and the Pauliticians� on Wednesdays at 7:11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. 

� Oct. 4: Thirsty Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., Gilhooley�s Grande Saloon, 3901 W. 103rd St., Chicago. The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations invites alumni and parents to renew old acquaintances or create new ones while enjoying free appetizers and a cash bar.

� Oct. 5: Golden Graduate Society Tea, 2 p.m., Heritage Room at Gilhooley�s Grande Saloon. Alumnae who attended the 49th and Cottage Grove campus are invited to a special afternoon tea to honor Saint Xavier�s rich history and exciting future. Cost is $10 per person, which includes tea and light refreshments.

� Oct. 5: Academic Distinguished Alumni Awards and All-Alumni Celebration honoring the classes of �67, �77, �82, �87 and �97, 6:30 p.m., Butler Reception Room. Awards will be presented to distinguished alumni for the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing, the Graham School of Management and the School of Education. All alumni are invited to catch up with old friends, meet with faculty members and see the exciting changes happening at Saint Xavier. Cost is $25 per person includes heavy hors d�oeuvres, beer and wine. 

� Oct. 6: 7th Annual Cougar 5K Run/Walk, 9 a.m., Shannon Center. Participate in the annual Cougar 5K Run/Walk through the heart of Evergreen Park. For more information or to sign up, visit www.signmeup.com/56920 or call (773) 298-3592. 

� Oct. 6: A series of alumni games will be held throughout the morning:
� Women�s Volleyball Alumnae Match: 9:30 a.m., main arena, Shannon Center
� Women�s Basketball Alumnae Game: 10 a.m., west gym, Shannon Center
� Men�s Basketball Alumni Game: 10 a.m., west gym, Shannon Center
� Baseball Alumni Game: 10 a.m., Ferrell Field
� Softball Alumnae Game: 10 a.m., Cougar Softball Field

� Oct. 6: Pre-Game Tailgate, 11 a.m., Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. The SXU community is invited to attend a cookout with hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings before the football game. Activities for kids of all ages include an obstacle course, face painting, games and much more. 

� Oct. 6: Class of �02 Reunion, 11 a.m., Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. The class of 2002 is invited to sit together at the Pre-Game Tailgate to catch up on the last five years since graduation.

� Oct. 6: Saint Xavier University vs. Ohio Dominican University football game, 1 p.m., Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. Cheer the Cougars on to victory over the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. Get free tickets to the football game by stopping at the Alumni Hospitality Tent.

� Oct. 6: 5th Quarter Party, immediately following the game, Gilhooley�s Grande Saloon. Celebrate a Cougar victory with free appetizers and a cash bar.

� Oct. 7: Alumni Mass, 10 a.m., McDonough Chapel. Departed alumni, friends and military servicemen and women around the globe will be honored and remembered. Alumni are encouraged to submit remembrance and prayer requests.

� Oct. 7: Alumni Awards Ceremony and Brunch, 11:30 a.m., Butler Reception Room. Saint Xavier will honor remarkable graduates with the presentation of the annual Alumni Association awards. Tickets are $20 per person.
