Chicago (March 9, 2009) Seven Saint Xavier University students spent their Spring Break volunteering with the Brother David Darst Center for Justice and Peace, Spirituality and Education in Chicago.
The Darst Center educates people about social justice issues by providing them with real-world experiences aiding marginalized populations.
The students visited the St. Rose Center on March 4, which provides day training services to developmentally disabled adults. The students ate lunch with the St. Rose members and helped them with their classroom exercises.
The students assisted at a food bank, a homeless shelter and local schools. The goals of the Spring Break service trips are threefold: to provide service to those in need, to provide an educational experience for participating students, and to create a fun, enjoyable week creating lifelong memories.
