Pastoral Ministry Institute

Since 1985 the Pastoral Ministry Institute of Saint Xavier University has reached out to the academic community, the Church and the world through its credit and non-credit opportunities. Once again, it is our pleasure to provide you with this overview of our programs for 2007-2008.

Designed to foster the finest tradition of pastoral theology, institute offerings prepare women and men for lay ecclesial ministry. These include undergraduate and graduate programs, seminars, workshops and conference days, as well as special events—all rooted in the tradition of “... faith seeking understanding,” and the rich heritage of service embodied in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy.

As the Pastoral Ministry Institute grows in relationship to both the University and the Archdiocese of Chicago, we wish to highlight a few of the special features in our upcoming programs. In both the fall and spring terms, you will find a seminar on Models of Spirituality. The first of these will highlight the letters of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, and the second will explore the spiritual tradition of Hildegard of Bingen through a study of her writings and a concert of her music performed by members of the University’s Women of Distinction Ensemble. Our graduate certificate program continues to grow and this year we are offering courses in Faith Development (fall) and Pastoral Counseling (spring). Finally, we have initiated a credit for prior learning option whereby Saint Xavier University will award undergraduate credit to those who have completed approved Archdiocesan non-credit certificates.

Please browse this Web site to view the many other options available. We hope you will join us and share in the enterprise of building a community of faith.
