2005-2006 Self-Study and Strategic Planning

This academic year will see an expansion of strategic planning activities that began in October 2003 with the Presidency of Dr. Judith A. Dwyer.

  • Every organizational unit across the University will participate in unit-level planning and assessment activities that will address the Eight Strategic Directions endorsed by the Board of Trustees in May 2004.

  • A set of 10 institutional goals for 2005-2006, formulated by President Dwyer in consultation with vice presidents and deans, will provide a broad framework for institutional accountability and progress towards the Eight Strategic Directions in this academic year.

  • With the advent of the accreditation self-study for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in October 2005, there will be an added impetus for a more rigorous examination of the University’s journey towards greater excellence and distinction.  The HLC Self-Study is a critical institutional initiative that will both inform and strengthen the strategic planning process and bring forth new ideas and initiatives for the attainment of the strategic vision and Eight Strategic Directions.

Saint Xavier University Planning Featured at Annual Meeting of the Higher Learning Commission.

  • Over the past several years, the Higher Learning Commission has used each Annual Meeting to focus on one of the cross-cutting themes embedded in the new Criteria for Accreditation. This year the theme is 'Future-Focused Organizations,' the ways in which higher education institutions are preparing for the next decade. A paper prepared by a team from Saint Xavier University will be featured at a Monday morning session (April 3) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Kathleen Carlson, Susan Piros and Rosemary Miklitsch will give a presentation on how strategic planning has progressed at Saint Xavier University over the past two years. Their paper entitled: "Three Ways to Advance Mission-Based Strategic Planning: Challenges, Achievements and Lessons Learned" gives an account of how we are advancing mission-based strategies across campus. Kathleen Carlson will give a brief history of the University and an overview of the strategic planning process launched by President Dwyer and the Board of Trustees. Susan Prios will explain how resource allocations are being linked with strategic planning and budgeting through the annual budget-planning process, the new staff performance appraisal system and the assessment innovation fund. Rosemary Miklitsch will give an external perspective to our process, with special emphasis on the lessons learned through our successes and challenges over the past two years.
