Board of Trustees Endorsement of Eight Strategic Directions

May 12, 2004

Saint Xavier University aspires to be a leading comprehensive Catholic University committed to the Core Values of Respect, Excellence, Compassion, Service, Hospitality, Integrity, Diversity, and Learning for Life in the Sisters of Mercy Tradition.

Whereas in seeking and selecting a new President, the Board of Trustees expressed its desire and intent that Saint Xavier University rise to a new level of excellence and become widely recognized as a leading regional Catholic university; and

Whereas the Board asked President Dwyer to engage the Saint Xavier University community in a comprehensive strategic planning process to realize that intent; and

Whereas President Dwyer, with her Cabinet and duly-constituted study groups, has engaged more than 400 University constituents in a focused planning process; and

Whereas the study groups have crafted a holistic and integrated set of Strategic Directions for the University; and

Whereas these Strategic Directions and the process leading to them have enlivened the campus community, heightened their sense of the University's potential, and renewed their commitment; and therefore

Be it resolved that the Board of Trustees commends President Dwyer and her colleagues for their work; affirms and endorses the eight Strategic Directions presented and discussed at this Board meeting; and pledges itself to support the realization of these goals in collaboration with the University's administration, faculty, and staff.”

  1. Saint Xavier University will advance its mission, Catholic identity, and Mercy heritage through the creation of structures, programs, and practices that focus resources and actions on core values, mission, and heritage.
  2. Saint Xavier University will enjoy a regional and national reputation for high quality academic programs within a culture of continuous improvement in the conditions and practices of learning and teaching.
  3. Saint Xavier University will be increasingly recognized as an excellent school for talented students seeking active engagement in dynamic learning and exceptional campus services.
  4. Saint Xavier University will develop a campus master plan that supports and fosters excellence in teaching and learning, student growth and development, and collaboration and collegiality.
  5. Saint Xavier University will successfully engage institutional constituents, forge a leading university advancement program, and build mission-based transformational giving and philanthropic support.
  6. Saint Xavier University will significantly increase its visibility and recognition for its people, programs, and services through vigorous and coherent public relations and marketing initiatives.
  7. Saint Xavier University will develop a rolling, 5-year financial plan that is fiscally responsible, supports the University's Mission, and improves the overall financial health of the institution.
  8. Saint Xavier University will prepare a master human resources plan that promotes the recruitment, professional development, and retention of a talented and diverse workforce committed to the core values, mission, and heritage of the institution.
