Saint Xavier University aspires to be a leading comprehensive Catholic University committed to the Core Values Of Respect, Excellence, Compassion, Service, Hospitality, Integrity, Diversity and Learning for Life in the Tradition of the Sisters of Mercy.
The Eight Strategic Directions reflect broad institutional themes for planning and action in the coming decade that will lead us to the final goal of becoming a leading comprehensive Catholic University. These eight directions emerged in the course of a vigorous institutional planning process that involved over 500 members of the Saint Xavier University community, including faculty, staff, administration, students, alumnae/alumni and community representatives. Taken together, the Eight Strategic Directions can be viewed as interlocking pieces of an institutional mosaic; each piece is vital to the overall attainment of the guiding vision.
The purpose of the first Town Hall Meeting was to provide a framework for planning activities in the coming year when individual departments and programs would strive to make connections between unit-level goals and objectives and the Eight Strategic Directions endorsed by the Board of Trustees in May 2004. Over 120 members of the University community gathered in the Butler Reception Room on September 13, 2004 to hear about strategic priorities, and to voice opinions about aspects of the planning directions and processes. The meeting began with opening remarks from the President, followed by brief summaries for planning in each of the vice presidential areas. This was followed by small group discussions when participants shared ideas about how the Eight Strategic Directions serve as sources of inspiration and sources of challenge in the coming years. Summaries of the proceedings can be found below.
