The strategic planning process at Saint Xavier University formally commenced on the evening of January 8, 2004 when nearly 100 members of the University Community gathered together to review and to discuss the findings of a survey of possible strategic directions conducted in December 2003.
After a presentation about a summary of strategic issues with high priority, breakout sessions were held to identify critical strategic questions that will guide the planning process in the coming months. Study Teams have been formed to address strategic issues identified in this survey pertaining to five broad areas of University life:

The statements of initiatives, along with proposals for strategic initiatives will be presented to the Board of Trustees as the May 2004 meetings. These materials will constitute the end products of the first phase of strategic planning that will take place over the next four months.
This document includes excerpts of published strategic directions and strategic initiatives from a Catholic university located in the Midwest. Study Teams will produce materials along these lines by early April 2004. Notations pertaining to deadlines and costs were added to the following examples in order to reflect the greater degree of precision and accountability sought in the Saint Xavier University planning process. More detailed implementation plans will be developed by Study Teams and upon Board approval of specific strategic initiatives.
