Strategic Planning Phase One

November

  1. Send initial communication to trustees, Members of the Corporation and campus community.
  2. Develop Web survey and send request to above constituents, alumni, and donors, asking them to complete and submit the survey.
  3. Host town meetings for faculty and staff on the planning process.

December

  1. Study group leaders select study group membership and extend invitations.
  2. Planning Team evaluates results of Web survey, articulates guiding principles and broad goals, refines areas of emphasis and begins to develop key questions for each area.
  3. Planning Team identifies members of comparison groups (peer, aspiration and competitor).

January

  1. Study group membership announced.
  2. Study groups convene and begin to conduct strategic analyses within context of parameters defined by Core Planning Team.
  3. University Advancement begins complementary activities to engage alumni, donors, friends and key business and civic leaders in this process.

February

  1. Core Planning Team presents progress report at Board meeting.
  2. Study groups continue to meet and begin to prepare proposals.
  3. Core Planning Team includes line in FY05 budget for planning priorities.

March

  1. Core Planning Team reviews study group proposals and makes recommendations for revision.
  2. Core Planning Team allocates budgetary resources for proposal objectives that have the highest priority for FY05.

April

  1. Study groups prepare final drafts of proposals, which include strategic initiatives, rationale, action plans, statistical documentation, outcome assessment measures and proposed objectives for the planning process for FY05.
  2. Core Planning Team prepares Executive Summary and sends package of materials to Board of Trustees.

May

  1. Board reviews proposed strategic initiatives and makes recommendations.
  2. Board approves revised initiatives and communicates document to all constituents.
  3. Core Planning Team makes assignments for implementation of initiatives.
