Employment Opportunities With The Department Of Public Safety

The Department of Public Safety employs the largest number of Federal Work Study eligible students on campus. Employment opportunities are available as resident hall desk officers, switchboard/dispatchers, walk and bike patrol officers and supervisors.

Student Desk Officers

• Job duties include access control, maintaining visitor logs, routing incoming calls and reporting all incidents to on-duty patrol officers. These positions are located at one of the four residence halls located on campus.
• Up to 80 Positions Available:
  Total Hours: Maximum of 15 hours per week
  Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
  Shifts: 2 to 8 hour shifts available
  Salary: $8.03 per hour (Returning FWS Students are eligible for a 25 cent increase)

Student Walk/Bike Patrol Officers

• These units serve as the "eyes and ears" of the full-time Public Safety officers. As a two-person team, this unit is responsible for conducting campus-wide foot patrols, escorts, and building security checks. This unit assists in reporting crimes and safety concerns. Officers may also be utilized during special events.
• Up to 20 Positions Available:
  Total Hours: Maximum of 15 hours per week
  Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
  Shifts: 2 to 8 hour shifts available
  Salary: $8.03 per hour (Returning FWS Students are eligible for a 25 cent increase)

Student Switchboard/Dispatch Officer

• This position is responsible for routing incoming calls to the University, 3-911 calls for service, dispatching security officers and making emergency notifications. This position is located in the main lobby of the Warde Academic Center.
• Total Hours: Maximum of 15 hours per week
  Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
  Shifts: 2 to 8 hour shifts available
  Salary: $8.03 per hour (Returning FWS Students are eligible for a 25 cent increase)

Student Supervisors

• Up to 20 Positions Available:
  Total Hours: Maximum of 15 hours per week
  Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m.
  Shifts: 2 to 8 hour shifts available
  Salary: $9.12 per hour (Returning FWS Students are eligible for a 25 cent increase)
