Classic Scenes to Delight More Than Just Longtime Opera-Philes

SXU Opera Workshop performances to entertain all audiences March 26 and 27

CHICAGO (Mar. 20, 2004) - The Music Department of Saint Xavier University will present the Spring 2004 Production of Opera Workshop, 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 in McGuire Hall on the University's Chicago Campus, 3700 West 103 rd Street.

The performance will include Act I of Rossini's La Cenerentola ; Act II of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro ; Act I of J. Strauss's Die Fledermaus ; Act I of Nicolai's Merry Wives of Windsor and Act I of Menotti's The Consul. All Dressed Up of Batavia will costume this year's presentation, which will be staged and presented in English translation so the entire audience can enjoy the drama and humor of each opera scene.

Featured in the La Cenerentola scene will be Carmen Rogge as Cenerentola, Stephanie Wright as Tisbe, Lisa Dudek as Clorinda and Michael Padden as Alidoro. Le Nozze di Figaro will feature Kathryn Montgomery as Countess Almaviva, Kathryn Mantoan as Susanna and Eileen Mrumlinski as Cherubino. Die Fledermaus will feature Virgin Terrazas as Rosalinda, Tom McNichols as Eisenstein and Lisa Dudek as Adele. Merry Wives of Windsor will feature Lisa Dudek as Alice Ford and Stephanie Wright as Meg Page. The Consul will feature Virginia Terrazas as Madga Sorel, Carmen Rogge as Secretary, Michael Padden as Mr. Kofner, Kathryn Mantoan as Foreign Woman, Mary Dwyer as Anna Gomez, Stephanie Wright as Vera Boronel and Tom McNichols as Magician.

The Musical/Theatrical direction of this production has been provided by Erin Wieneke, adjunct vocal instructor at SXU and Daniel Surma, accompanist. Set and lighting design credit goes to Rik Oliva, a well-known scenic artist of the Oak Lawn area.

Tickets for each performance are $10/adults and $8/senior citizens and visiting students. The performances are free for SXU faculty, staff and students with advanced ticket reservations.
