CHICAGO (July 5, 2001) -- In a recent issue of Crain’s Chicago Business, Saint Xavier University was recognized for achieving the highest percentage of enrollment growth last year among Chicago-area universities and colleges.
Saint Xavier University’s enrollment increased 13.6 percent, the largest percentage increase of all Chicago-area public and private higher education institutions, according to the July 2nd issue of the business weekly. The data was obtained from the Illinois Board of Higher Education and compared the 1999 and 2000 academic years.
University President Dr. Richard Yanikoski expressed pleasure at the Saint Xavier's sustained enrollment increase. “This is our third consecutive year of very strong enrollment growth and all indications are that we again will see a similar increase this coming autumn,” he said. “Saint Xavier has become an institution of choice among students.”
Yanikoski attributed the enrollment success to the University’s dedicated staff and faculty who have focused on recruiting and educating students. He also noted that this growth reflects strong retention rates, new course offerings at the South Campus in Tinley Park, and a burgeoning interest in graduate programs. The recent construction boom on the main campus has also helped to drive enrollment. An athletic and convocation center was completed in the late 1990’s, a chapel and ministry center was dedicated last year, and a new residence hall is set to open in August.
Saint Xavier University is a private, coeducational institution serving more than 4,800 men and women with high quality academic programs.
