Saint Xavier Teaching Consortium Receives $50,000 Grant from AT&T

CHICAGO (July 13, 2001) – AT&T has awarded the Midwest Technology Teaching Academy (MTTA) a $50,000 grant for its expansion and second year of operation. The MTTA, a consortium of Saint Xavier University, Alverno College, Holy Cross College, Loras College, Mount Mary College, and North Central College, focuses on faculty development in the use of technology in the classroom.

The MTTA pairs faculty mentors and mentees at the participating universities, who work toward the redesign of a particular course. Over two semesters, the mentor/mentee pairs develop ways of incorporating technology into the course and implementing the new teaching methods.

“The goal of the Academy is to support faculty, expand boundaries, and energize one another,” said Dr. Angelo Bonadonna, of Saint Xavier’s English Department. “We are focusing on mentorship as a better way to approach teaching change.”
