CHICAGO (August 27, 2001) – Saint Xavier University’s 2001-2001 Film Series will present The Emperor and the Assassin on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15 at 7 p.m. in McGuire Hall in the Warde Academic Center on the University’s Main Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago. Admission is free to all who wish to attend.
The Emperor and the Assassin is a riveting glimpse into China’s vast history. Shakespearean in quality, The Emperor and the Assassin stars Li Xuejian as the powerful king of Qin province who is determined to become China’s first emperor. During his struggles to unify China he sends his lover (Gong Li) in search of an assassin whom she eventually falls in love with. The Emperor and the Assassin is representation of the difficult choices that many faced during this incredible chapter in Chinese history.
The Saint Xavier University Film Series proudly exhibits films of an artistic, foreign, and/or independent nature. This film deals with adult themes and therefore has a tendency to contain some combinations of profane language, nudity, sexual situations, violence, and address subject matter that may not be suitable for more sensitive viewers.
