Graham School Film Series To Showcase Business On The Big Screen

Festival begins Sept. 17 with ‘Wall Street’

CHICAGO (Sept. 8, 2003) – Saint Xavier University’s Graham School of Management will host a fall film series, looking at Hollywood’s depiction of the modern business world.

Films will be shown at 1:30 p.m. in the Graham School of Management’s Andrew Hall, 3825 W. 103rd St., Chicago. Admission is free. The event will be hosted and moderated by Dr. Chris Clott and Dr. Ben Weeks. Film times and dates are:

“Wall Street,” to be shown Wednesday, Sept. 17. In this 1987 film, Charlie Sheen plays Bud Fox, a Wall Street stockbroker with a strong desire to get to the top.

Working for his firm during the day, he spends his spare time working an on angle with which to approach the high-powered, extremely successful (but ruthless) broker Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), whose main guiding principle is that “greed is good.”

“Glengarry Glen Ross,” to be shown Wednesday, Oct. 15. This 1992 film written by David Mamet examines the machinations behind the scenes at a Chicago real estate office. Given incentives to succeed by their boss, some of the sales team fails to realize the consequences of their actions. Stars Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Kevin Spacey and Alec Baldwin

“Working Girl,” to be shown Wednesday, Nov. 19. In this 1988 film, when a secretary’s idea is stolen by her boss, she seizes an opportunity to steal it back by pretending she has her boss’s job.

Stars Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver, Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack.
