Imam Amin to Speak at Saint Xavier University

CHICAGO (September 25, 2001) – Saint Xavier University’s Center for Religion and Discourse and the Religious Affairs Committee welcome Imam Amin Kholwadia of the Council of Islamic Organizations. Imam Amin will present “A Snapshot of Islam” on Thursday, September 26 at noon in the Warde Academic Center’s Reception Room, Saint Xavier University, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.

Imam Amin, a leader in the Muslim community, is an expert on Islam and will explain basic concepts concerning God, jihad, and nonviolence. His intent is to bring about a better understanding of Muslim religious and cultural beliefs. Following the lecture, Imam Amin will lead a prayer.

Saint Xavier’s new Center for Religion and Public Discourse was founded in response to the University’s mission “to continue to gain recognition as a leading Catholic institution which fosters theological reflection, moral discourse, pastoral ministry, and responsible social action.” The Center will encourage interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and dialogue concerning ways in which religious traditions can best shape social discourse about important matters of public policy, politics, and societal ethics.
