Saint Xavier Takes Part in National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week

CHICAGO (October 13, 2000) -- Saint Xavier University will join more than 3,000 other universities and colleges around the country to celebrate National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) during the week of October 15-21. The week will promote personal responsibility and respect for the law when it comes to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Holly Gibson Hergan, Director of Counseling at Saint Xavier University, spoke about the different information that will be offered during the week. "We will have a quiz that you can take if you have concerns about your own drinking habits. If you take this quiz, it will give you an idea of whether you might be in trouble with Your drinking habits. We will offer tips for students who do not want to drink, but feel peer pressure to drink, how they say no."

Nationally, NCAAW is in its second decade; it started with 25 schools in 1983. The program helps college administrators and students launch and/or strengthen year round prevention programs.
