CHICAGO (October 18, 2000) – Saint Xavier University’s Art Gallery will exhibit recent works from Tatiana Garmendia’s Figure series from October 30 – November 21 at the university’s main campus, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
A figurative artist with a conceptual twist, Ms. Garmendia works with graphite and metal on paper. She conjures pictures of the human skeleton and internal organs so realistic that, at first glance, they look like X-rays. "The images stress their nature as marked paper and explore the interchangeability of illusion and reality," Garmendia said.
Garmendia has exhibited the Bronx Museum of Arts, Art In General, and Stux Gallery in New York, as well as the Milan Art Center in Italy, the Castfield Gallery in England, and the Galeria Riesa Efau in Germany. Her works are also in public collections in New York, Illinois, California, Ohio, and the Dominican Republic.
The SXU Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. For additional information, please call (773) 298-3081.
