Saint Xavier Art Gallery Presents “In the Midst of Chaos, Peace”

CHICAGO (October 18, 2001) – Saint Xavier University’s Art Gallery will show “ In the Midst of Chaos, Peace,” a collection of silhouette paper-cuts and serigraphs, from Monday, November 5 through Wednesday, November 28. A mid-day meditation celebrating the work is planned on Tuesday, November 13 and will focus on in the healing presence of the Virgin Mary in art.

This exhibit will show artwork by Sister Mary Jean Dorcy and Daniel Thomas Paulos, two of the foremost Catholic paper-cutting artists. Their artwork reflects the views that art is prayer and is a vehicle to praise God and illustrate the various gifts that he has given to the world. They were featured in the 1999 book In the Midst of Chaos, Peace with reflections by Sister Wendy Beckett, famed BBC and PBS art critic. It will be available for purchase at the gallery during the exhibition.

The show is sponsored by the Saint Bernadette Institute of Sacred Art in Santa Fe, NM.

The SXU Gallery is located in the Warde Academic Center on the University’s Main Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago. It is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is free.
