Saint Xavier University Awarded First Place in Mayor Daley's Landscape Awards Competition

CHICAGO (October 23, 2000) – Saint Xavier University was recognized over the weekend for its achievements in landscaping, winning first place citywide in the Public Institutions Category of Mayor Daley’s Landscape Awards Program. University representatives accepted the award at a ceremony on Saturday, October 21 at the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Over the past five years, landscaping as a means of beautifying the campus has become a priority at the university. Enhancements have been made to all university entrances, parking lots, Lake Marion, Mary’s Circle, Convocation and Athletic Center, and new McDonough Chapel and Mercy Ministry Center.

"The university’s objective has been to enhance and soften our 45-year-old campus with a fresh, eye-appealing, yet environmentally friendly educational climate by creating a welcoming atmosphere for students and the community," said Ken Kulick, Manager of Plant Operations and Construction at Saint Xavier.
