Saint Xavier Honors Students Win ACI Humanities Fellowship

CHICAGO (October 25, 2001) –Saint Xavier University students Mark Dykstra and Leanne Koning have been selected to attend the 2001 Chicago Humanities Festival. The honor, awarded by The Associated Colleges of Illinois, is given to outstanding college students in the field of humanities.

Mark Dykstra and Leanne Koning are both members of the Saint Xavier’s Honors Program. Dykstra is a Political Science major and a resident of Evergreen Park, IL. Koning is an English major and a resident of Orland Park, IL. As winners of the ACI fellowship, they will meet author and scholar Houston Baker, attend the closing concert “Legends on Stage and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble: Music from the Original Regal Theatre,” receive free admission to all the events, and stay at a downtown Chicago hostel for the weekend.

This theme of this year’s festival is “Words and Pictures” celebrating diversity in art, literature, and film in the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Ireland. It will run from Thursday, November 1 to Sunday, November 11 in the Chicago Loop area and is open to the public.
