CHICAGO (October 30, 2000) -- Saint Xavier University’s Nursing Center offers services not only to faculty and students, but the community as well. The Nursing Center, located on the ground floor of the university’s School of Nursing, is entering its ninth year of service and is composed of a volunteer staff of nursing students and doctors. "Students really enjoy the experience," said Joan Klein, Director of the Nursing Center.
The Nursing Center services are free, although a small fee is sometimes charged to cover the cost of supplies and medication. It offers blood pressure screenings, general health teaching, drug testing and early childhood developmental screening. The center also offers TB testing, which is utilized by mostly Saint Xavier students. There are approximately 800 TB tests done by the center each year.
Saint Xavier’s Nursing Center has a partnership with the City of Chicago to administer vaccinations every other month. The next vaccination will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The city provides the supplies and Nursing Center staff distributes the vaccinations.
