CHICAGO (November 2, 2001) -- Saint Xavier University’s Center for Religion and Public Discourse will host its second Pub Discourse at Gilhooley’s Grande Saloon on Thursday, November 15. Saint Xavier Professors Matthew Costello and Maire Mullins will dialogue on the topic "As Good As It Gets – or Not: A Short Discourse on the Good, the Sad, and the Ugly".
Costello, of the Department of History and Political Science, will deliver a presentation entitled "Being at home in the world: Maintaining the American community in the face of globalization," which will explore the nature of political identity in an increasingly global environment. Mullins, Chair of the Department of English and Foreign Languages, will examine "Lamentations and Grief in American Drama." A period of questions and comments will follow.
The Pub Discourse series offers the opportunity to discuss topics of intellectual merit or curiosity in a casual atmosphere. Speakers are drawn from Saint Xavier faculty, staff, and administration.
