Chinese Instrument Recital at Saint Xavier University

CHICAGO (November 15, 2000) -- The Saint Xavier University Music Department continues its Classics at Noon series with a Chinese Instrument Recital on Friday, December 8th in McGuire Hall from noon to 12:50 p.m. Husband and wife team, Betty Xiang and Wei Yang return to the Xavier Classics at Noon Series to present a concert featuring the unique sounds of the Erhu and Pipa.

Ms. Xiang was trained by her father Zuying Xiang, a renowned Erhu soloist and master in China and Erhu professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Mr. Yang, who started his musical training at age six, was privately tutored by some of the great Pipa masters in China, including the renowned Professor Dehai Liu, principal of the Chinese Conservatory of music.

Since immigrating to the United States in 1996, both Chinese classic musicians have given many concerts and demonstrations throughout the country including The Art Institute of Chicago, New York City, St. Louis, Missouri, Fort Wayne, Indiana and, most recently, the all Bach Program of Ravinia Music Festival in Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Yang teach Pipa and Erhu in their private studios in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
