CHICAGO (November 15, 2000) – Saint Xavier University will host a program this evening on sexual assault awareness entitled, "He Said – She Said." The program will include a testimonial by a date-rape victim and interactive scenarios with audience participation. The event will be held on the University’s main campus in McGuire Hall at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 15th.
Katie Koestner and Brett A. Sokolow will be the guest speakers for the evening. Ms. Koestner, who appeared on the June 3, 1991 Time magazine cover, is an outspoken date rape survivor. In 1993, she completed the HBO Lifestories docudrama No Visible Bruises: The Katie Koestner Story. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Brett A. Sokolow, JD, a specialist on sexual assault policy and law, will co-facilitate the program. He is the President and Director of Risk Management Programs for the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management.
Saint Xavier University officials believe it is important to inform students about such issues as date-rape awareness. "This event should be very educational and eye-opening," says Holly Gibson Hergan, Director of Counseling Services at the University.
