CHICAGO (November 19, 2001) – It’s that time of year again, flu season. Saint Xavier University understands the need to fight the suffering this winter. Low cost flu shots will be administered on Friday, December 7 from 10 a.m.- 2p.m. at the Nursing Center of the University’s Main Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
90 million cases of the flu reported each year in the United States and about average of 20,000 lives each year are lost due to this infection. The flu, also known as influenza, is an acute respiratory infection caused by a variety of influenza viruses that produced fever, chills, sore throat, muscle ashes, and cough that lasts a week or more.
The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over the age of sixty-five, any person over six months of age who wish to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill from influenza, and anyone who are less able to fight infections because of chronic metabolic diseases.
No appointment is necessary. The vaccine is $5 for the public and free to those with proof of Medicare.
