CHICAGO (November 20, 2000) –Dr. Tony Kushner will present The Ethics of Using Holocaust Testimony at Saint Xavier University next week. The presentation will discuss the rights and wrongs of the use of Holocaust testimony. It is a follow-up to last spring’s presentation at Saint Xavier given by Sidney Finkel, a Holocaust survivor. The presentation will be held on the University’s main campus on Tuesday, November 21st at 4 p.m. in the Bishop Quarter Room.
Dr. Kushner’s presentation will address effects and ethical issues that arise from holocaust testimonies. It will include a brief overview of the various ways the testimonies of holocaust survivors have been used. To support his thesis, Kushner will use an excerpt from "Shoah," a documentary filmed in 1985 by Claude Lanzmann, depicting the effects of the holocaust on its victims.
Dr. Kushner is a professor in History and Director of the Centere for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton, England. His research and teaching interests are in modern Jewish history, Holocaust Studies, the history of anti-Semitism and racism, and immigrant, minority, and refugee studies.
