CHICAGO (November 29, 2000) -- Saint Xavier congratulates Paul Bear, Nursing and Adult College student, who will receive the Sister Paulita Morris Award. One member of the student body is recognized every year for outstanding service and dedication to the University and community. This award is presented every year on Saint Francis Xavier Day, celebrated on Friday, December 1.
When someone thinks of a typical college student, a consistent picture may come to mind: age 17-22, dorm life, a job at the mall or restaurant, maybe several piercings. If this is your definition, then Paul Bear is not your typical college student.
A nursing major in Saint Xavier’s, Bear falls within the 5% of the male population in a female dominated profession. Darlene O' Callaghan, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Nursing, talked about some of his good qualities and how they will be used with the nursing profession. "The neat thing about Paul is that he is highly motivated. I have not seen anyone throw themselves into their schoolwork as much as him."
