CHICAGO (December 12, 2001) — Registration for elementary and high school student tutoring at Saint Xavier University’s Merwick Academy begins January 14, Monday – Friday from 9 p.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.. Classes will meet once a week for twelve weeks, from January 28 through April 20. Tutoring will be offered in math, reading, study skills, language arts, and science. The classes are $150 per subject.
The Merwick Academy provides educational tutorial programs for elementary and secondary students of public, parochial, and private schools in the Chicago area. Since its inception 40 years ago, the program allows students of different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and sexes to interact in the learning process. The Merwick Academy works with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to meet the needs of the individual student.
Tutors at the Merwick Academy come from various educational backgrounds. The staff includes current public and private school teachers, recent graduates of Saint Xavier’s School of Education, recent retirees from full-time classrooms, as well as some SXU students with expertise in specialized subject areas may be assisting as well.
