Saint Xavier University Joints the Association of American Colleges and Universities

CHICAGO (December 18, 2001) – At their autumn meeting, the Board of Directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities approved Saint Xavier University for membership in the organization. AAC&U is the leading national association devoted to advancing and strengthening liberal learning for all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career. Since its founding, AAC&U’s membership has grown to more than 730 accredited public and private colleges and universities of every type and size.

“Saint Xavier’s membership in AAC&U shows that it is serious about liberal learning and is totally committed to quality undergraduate education,” Dr. Christopher Chalokwu, Vice President of Academic Affairs said. “The AAC&U membership will help us remain current in 21st century higher education trends and to promote our academic programs.”

AAC&U functions as a catalyst and facilitator, forging links among presidents, administrators, and faculty members who are engaged in institutional and curricular planning. Its mission is to reinforce the collective commitment to liberal education at both the national and local level and to help individual institutions keep the quality of student learning at the core of their work as they evolve to meet new economic and social challenges.

AAC&U’s members’ mission embraces mobilizing collaborative leadership, building faculty capacity, strengthening curricula, establishing diversity, and fostering global engagement. Focusing on these priorities, AAC&U hosts national initiatives, sponsors meetings and summer institutes, and produces resources all designed to assist its member institutions in meeting the challenge of providing high quality education to today’s students.
