University Debit Card

Students can use the Cougar Card to access funds in their meal plan account to make purchases in the SXU Diner and the cafés, in their book voucher accounts for textbook purchases in the Bookstore, and in their print accounts for printing in the technology labs.  You can pay for any of these services by swiping your Cougar Card.  The cost will be deducted from your respective account until there are no longer sufficient funds to cover the cost of the purchase.

Book Voucher Account

Students with excess financial aid on their student account may elect to have the estimated cost of books transferred to a book voucher account to purchase any type of item on sale in the Bookstore. Students should tell the cashier that you would like to use this account at the time of purchase.

Please note:

  • Transfer requests can be made anytime during the semester but must be made in person in Student Accounts, A-209.
  • Once a request is processed, the funds are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Unspent funds expire and are forfeited at the end of each semester.

Meal Plan Account

Students, particularly residents, can purchase one of several University meal plans that allow them to purchase food and beverages in the SXU Diner and from the cafés on the campuses by swiping their Cougar Card as payment.  The amount of the purchase is deducted from your meal plan account.

  • Once a request is processed, the funds are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Unspent funds expire and are forfeited at the end of each semester.

Meal Plan Transfer Account

Students who participate in a University meal plan have the option to transfer a maximum of $250 per semester from their meal plan account to a separate account that can be used to make various purchases on campus.  In the Bookstore, anything except textbooks can be purchased using funds in this account.

  • Once a request is processed, the funds are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Unspent funds expire and are forfeited at the end of each semester.

Personal Cougar Cash Account

Students, faculty and staff can add funds to their personal Cougar Cash account to make it very convenient to purchase products and services on campus and selected local vendors with the swipe of a card. 

The Cougar Card is accepted in the following locations:

  • Vending machines
  • Copiers
  • Copy Cats
  • The Mailbox (postage and fax charges)
  • Bookstore
  • SXU Diner and the cafés
  • Gilhooley’s Grande Saloon (excluding alcoholic beverages)
  • Subway, 10319 S. Pulaski Road
  • Laundry machines (in the residence halls)

Funds can be deposited into to a personal Cougar Cash account in the following ways:

  • Using a credit card or Web check through CLAWS
  • Bringing cash, check or credit card in person to Student Accounts, A-209
  • Mailing a check payable to Saint Xavier University and a completed Debit Account Deposit Slip (PDF) to:

  • A minimum deposit of $25 is required.
  • Once a request is processed, the funds are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Unspent funds remain in the account across semesters and academic years as long as you are part of the University community.

Lab Printing Account

When a student prints a document to a lab printer, it is held in a queue for that printer until the student gets the release station to print it.  At the print release station, the student will sign on to see a list of their submitted documents.  After selecting a document and seeing the cost of printing the document displayed on screen, the student can print the document by swiping their Cougar Card through the card reader. The cost of printing the document is deducted from the first of three accounts that has sufficient funds to cover the cost of printing: first, from the Lab Printing account, second, from the Meal Plan Transfer account, and third, from the personal Cougar Cash account. Lab Printing accounts are provisioned each semester with 500 printed pages at 10 cents/page. Printing on special paper in the Art & Design Lab costs 50 cents/page.
