SXU Identification Card

Your Cougar Card identifies you as a member of the Saint Xavier community.  It carries your picture, name, identification number and Library account number.

You may get your Cougar Card in the Office of Student Affairs, L-208, on the Chicago campus or at the Public Safety Desk in the foyer at the Orland Park campus.  As part of University orientation, you will get your picture taken.  Once students have made arrangements to pay for your courses, or faculty and staff have made arrangements to be paid for their services, you can pick up your card at either location.

Student ID Number

You can find your student identification number on your Cougar Card.  Your student ID number (circled below) is a six-digit number found in the third grouping of numbers printed on your card just below your name.  In the example above, John Doe's student ID number is 987543.

Please note that whenever your student ID number is requested, all six digits must be given even if the number contains zeroes like 001234 or 547000.

Library Account Number

Your University Library account number (circled below) appears below the barcode at the base of the card.  While your account number is bracketed by the letters A and D, these letters are not part of your University Library account number.

Cougar Card

You may use your Cougar Card to borrow materials from 65 libraries around the State of Illinois.  You can also use your 14-digit Library account number to check out materials online.

Access to Buildings

Students who live in the residence halls or have classes in the Pulaski or Driehaus centers, gain access to these buildings by swiping the Cougar Card though the card reader at the entrance.  When students swipe cards to enter a residence hall, the picture on their Cougar Cards is presented to the Public Safety officer on duty in the residence hall.  Please note that only the Cougar Cards of students and faculty who have classes in Pulaski and Driehaus are keyed to provide access to those facilities.  For your safety and security and that of others, please arrange for others to use their cards to access those buildings.

Financial Clearance

Many services are only available to current students, faculty, and staff.  Other services, for instance, check cashing, are available only to students without a financial hold on their account.  University offices can swipe a Cougar Card at a workstation and see on the screen whether that Cougar Card belongs to a current student or employee and whether there are any financial holds placed on a student’s account.
