Electronic mail seems to becoming the dominant method of communication at Saint Xavier and elsewhere. The university offers two similar electronic mail services, IMail and Exchange. Messages on either service (server) can be accessed and read with a web browser pointed to the appropriate address (mail.sxu.edu or exchange.sxu.edu, respectively) or with a mail client such as Microsoft Outlook.
New students are given access to an IMail mailbox when they go through their orientation program prior to their first semester. New staff and faculty are given access to an Exchange mailbox with its shared calendar facilities.
Faculty and staff can also request access to bulk distribution lists and interactive discussion lists to automatically send messages to large sections of the university community for university business. Bulk distribution lists offer a tool to broadcast messages with replies going to the sender. Interactive discussion lists offer a tool to broadcast replies as well as messages going to a group of subscribers.
