Sabbatical Leave Committee

The Sabbatical Leave Committee is an elected committee of the faculty and its principal duty is to evaluate the sabbatical proposals submitted by faculty members in the fall semester of each academic year.  All members of the faculty who are not serving on other University committees are eligible to serve on Sabbatical Leave Committee.

The Sabbatical Leave Committee also carries out the following related duties:

  • Establishes the eligibility, years of service and faculty rank of each applicant in consultation with the office of the Provost.
  • Sends the committee's recommendations to the faculty applicants, appropriate Department Chairpersons, School Deans and Provost.
  • Makes an annual report to the Faculty Affairs Committee summarizing (anonymously) the committee's rating and ranking decisions and indicating the disposition of each application.
  • Maintains an archive of Sabbatical Leave Committee-related documents.
  • Holds a spring-semester faculty workshop that provides examples and makes recommendations for writing sabbatical applications.
