Sabbatical Leave Committee worked with the University administration and Faculty Affairs Committee to create Grant Conditional Sabbaticals in order to promote faculty applications for Fulbright proposals and other external awards. For more information on Grant Conditional Sabbaticals, click on Applicants and then External Funding. The committee also improved the Application Instructions by requiring applicants to describe their project in detail. Lastly, the committee has also established a Webmaster position to maintain and develop the web site.
Sabbatical Leave Committee has undergone many changes this year. First, we recommended that Faculty Affairs Committee make a series of changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement to streamline the functioning of our committee. Most of our recommended changes were written into the new CBA. Second, we created a committee web site that is designed to serve both applicants for sabbatical leave and committee members. Third, we established a sabbatical leave writing workshop, which was sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and which will be an annual event. Fourth, we created a series of new documents in order to standardize committee practices and to promote efficiency. The documents included four sample cover letters, a sample recommendation letter, instructions for the chair of sabbatical leave committee, and helpful hints for writing sabbatical leave applications. We also revised our letter to the faculty and our instructions for sabbatical leave applications.
