Beverly Gulley, Ph.D.
Dean of the School of Education

The School of Education has a long and successful history of preparing individuals for careers in teaching and administration in both public and private schools.

The School of Education places a high priority on school-university partnerships and has developed vital relationships with both urban and suburban school districts.

These valued partnerships provide candidates with the best opportunities to participate in meaningful clinical experiences as they prepare to become classroom teachers, school administrators and/or school or community agency counselors. The conceptual framework of the School of Education provides the basis for understanding what it means to be a candidate in education at Saint Xavier University.

The conceptual framework emphasizes the preparation of scholars, lifelong learners, leaders, and reflective practitioners dedicated to the pursuit of excellence.  It is within the context of this understanding and belief system that students engage in vital preparation for their careers in teaching, administration and counseling.

The School is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) at the initial and advanced levels.  In addition, all programs in the School of Education are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

The School has aligned its programs with the high professional standards set forth by the NCATE and its constituent specialized professional associations. By adhering to these standards the School is committed to preparing individuals who can teach, administer or counsel in schools and community agencies of the twenty-first century.
