Educational Administration

(33 or 36 semester hours)

The Masters Degree program in Educational Administration and Supervision prepares candidates to become principals in elementary or high schools, or assistant superintendents and program directors in private as well as public educational settings. The program focuses on instructional leadership, school management, staff development, and leadership in school improvement. Completion of the master's degree program in Educational Administration and Supervision, passing state tests, and proof of two years full time or four years part time work experience as a teacher or school personnel will lead to the State of Illinois Type 75 certificate. Requirement for the Master of Arts degree:

EDUG 514 Scholarship of Teaching: Finalizing the Inquiry Process
  or
Two additional graduate courses in the School of Education

Each internship associated with courses in administration and supervision will be completed in a sixteen-week semester (approximately four months).

Completion of core courses is required for the Illinois Type 75, general administrative certificate.

Graduation Requirements

All coursework must be completed within five years of admission. A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 must be maintained; a grade of D is not acceptable toward satisfying degree or certification requirements. Not more than six (6) semester hours of appropriate graduate credit, taken prior to being admitted to Saint Xavier University and taken within the past five years, may be transferred from another institution.
