Clinical Nurse Leader

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) track is a master’s level program of study that is built upon the competencies stated in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Working Paper on the Role of the Clinical Nurse Leader (Revised June 2004).

The CNL is prepared to practice in clinical leadership roles in settings throughout the health care delivery system. This individual assumes accountability for healthcare outcomes for a specific group of clients within a unit or setting. Utilizing research-based information, the CNL designs, implements, and evaluates client plans of care. This individual, with expertise in nursing leadership, clinical outcome management and care environment management, is eligible to sit for the CNL certification examination which is administered by AACN. Curriculum

Master of Science in Nursing: CNL Option

The Clinical Nurse Leader curriculum includes core courses that provide a foundation for advanced nursing practice and specialty courses that prepare the student to assume the role of a Clinical Nurse Leader in a microsystem setting within the health care delivery system.
