Mission Statement:


The mission of the research committee is to encourage the conduct, dissemination, and
utilization of research by chapter members.

The goals of the research committee are:

  1. To encourage and support research activities of members.
  2. To promote dissemination of research findings.
  3. To encourage nursing students to participate in the research process.

Criteria for Awarding of Research Funds

Award Criteria:

  1. Current membership in Alpha Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau (preferred).
  2. A well-defined research project pertinent to nursing. Thesis and dissertation research projects are eligible.
  3. Ability to use research monies within one year of the award date.
  4. Allocation of funds will be based upon the quality of the proposed project, and the past performance and future promise of the applicant.
  5. The award recipient must be willing to present the completed research project to the Alpha Omicron chapter.

The following must be submitted for consideration for research funds from the Alpha Omicron chapter of Sigma Theta Tau:

  1. Application Form for Research Funds and a signed Research Grant Agreement.
  2. Abstract not to exceed 250 words.
  3. Grant Proposal. This should be typed (double-spaced), and be no longer than 5 pages in length (not including references), and in APA format, with a font not less than 10.  The following points should be included in the proposal:
    • Specific Aims: State what the project is intended to accomplish, and/or what research questions or hypotheses are to be addressed.
    • Background: Review in brief the literature that substantiates the specific aims of the project, evaluating existing knowledge.
    • Significance: Identify the nursing implications of the project.
    • Design and Methods: Describe the research design and the procedures to be used to accomplish the specific aims. Include your rationale for your choice of research design.
    • Human Subjects: Describe your procedures for protection of the rights of human subjects.
  4. Current Curriculum Vitae and a description of the previous research experience of the investigator(s).
  5. Budget: Detail the direct costs associated with your request.
  6. Appendices: Include supplemental information, if desired (e.g., copy of instruments).
