Incident: Robbery

Dates: October 12, 2017, at 10:40 a.m.; November 5, 2017, at 9:37 p.m.; November 6, 2017, at 9:15 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.

Details: The Chicago Police Department Area South - Bureau of Detectives has issued a community alert regarding multiple armed robberies in the Beverly/Morgan Park community. The Department has allocated additional resources to the area.

Suspects: The two armed offenders were described to police as male, African American and between 14 and 18 years old, standing 5'5" and weighing 130-150 lbs. Subjects were armed with a handgun. Two other males were waiting inside the vehicle.

Additional: If you have any information pertaining to these recent incidents, call Area South at 312-747-8273. Please remain vigilant and be aware of your surroundings. If you see something suspicious, call 911.

The 022 District recently released a Community Alert regarding theft from vehicles in our area. According to police, an unknown offender(s) has been walking down our streets, pulling on car door handles. When the offender discovered vehicles with unlocked doors, they entered the vehicle and took property from within. These incidents have occurred between the hours of midnight to 7 a.m. To view the original alert, please view Community Alert (PDF).

As a reminder, you should always make sure your car doors are locked and secure. Never keep anything of value in your vehicle; especially portable GPS units, cell phone chargers, purses, briefcases or loose change. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious activity, including vehicle description and license plate information.

Incident: Robbery

Date: Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Location: 10240 S. Pulaski Rd, Oak Lawn, IL 60453

Details: On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 7:39 p.m. Oak Lawn Police responded to the Mobile Gas Station located at 103rd and Pulaski Road for the Armed Robbery. Investigation revealed a M/B subject entered the business, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash. The subject then fled the area. Video from the business shows a 2nd M/B subject waiting outside the business as a lookout. No one was injured in the incident and the subjects fled the area.

Suspects:

  1. 25-30 years old, 5'05"- 5'10" tall, 150-175 lbs., wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and tattered partially bleached blue jeans.
  2. Unknown age, 5'05"- 5'10" tall, 150-175 lbs., wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and tan shoes or boots.

Incident: Robbery

Date: Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Location: 14101 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, IL 60453

Details: On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 7:47 p.m. Oak Lawn Police responded to the Payless Shoe Store located in the 6300 block of W 95th St for the robbery. Investigation revealed a M/W subject (Middle Eastern or Hispanic decent) and a F/B subject entered the business and appeared to be shopping. Both approached the counter and the male demanded cash from the register after threatening the clerk. No one was injured in the incident and the subjects fled the area.

Suspects:

  1. The male is 20-25 years old, with short hair and a beard, 6 foot tall, 180-200 lbs., wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black gloves.
  2. The female is 20-25 years old, 5'02"-5'05" tall, skinny build, 125-145 lbs., with shoulder length curly hair. She was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black leggings, and black combat style boots.

Important Safety Reminders

At Saint Xavier University, we care about your safety and well-being. Replacing valuable property is expensive and inconvenient, but taking precautions will help keep you and your belongings safe. Included here are some safety reminders so that you can have the best experience while on and off campus this holiday season.

  • Safeguard your personal property at all times.
  • Property left unattended even for a short period is prone to theft.
  • Crimes of opportunity are preventable.
  • Do not rely on others to watch your property if you need to leave the area even for a short period of time.
  • High activity areas such as the Diner, Library and Shannon Center are easy targets for unattended property.
  • Take your property with you.
  • At the Shannon Center, use the lockers with your personal lock.
  • Walk with an awareness of your surroundings. You become a target when you are walking and using a cell phone. Wait until you reach a secure location to use your phone.
  • While driving, drive defensively at all times. If you are putting packages in your car, it is recommended that you move your car to a different location.
  • Do not drive with valuables including a purse or gym bag in plain view especially the front seat of your car.
  • Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area. Do not leave property in your car in plain view and lock your car at all times.
  • When in doubt always error on the side of caution.
