Services
Welcome to the Student Success Program (SSP) services. To make life easier for you, we've organized some links that we think you'll find useful. Please click on the links below and please don't hesitate to contact us if you need more information.
- Academic Personal Development Workshops
Many students find that getting extra advice or support from fellow students, teachers or staff can lead to rewarding outcomes; both inside and outside the classroom. SSP follows this premise by offering various personal and academic workshops to its students every semester.
- Student Leadership Opportunities
Whatever career paths students pursue, the ability to be an effective leader is crucial for success. For this reason, the Student Success Program provides several opportunities for students to assume leadership positions.
- Service Learning Projects
SSP offers a variety of opportunities for its students to volunteer in the community. Previous activities include volunteering in soup kitchens, working in day care programs and neighborhood clean-ups.
- Special Events
The Student Success Program sponsors various events throughout the year to enhance students' academic and social experience at SXU.
- Academic Advising
Students participating in the Student Success Program will be assigned an SSP advisor if they are majoring in education, nursing, business or if they are undecided about their major. If you have a major other than those previously listed, you will be assigned a faculty advisor in the appropriate department.
- Personal Counseling
Sometimes personal issues prevent students from being successful. Free confidential counseling is available for all SSP students with the SSP Program Counselor.
- Career Counseling
Career counseling is a process by which students undergo exploration of self and of the world of work in order to make an informed decision regarding their career paths and/or choice of major.
- Academic Monitoring
SSP offers intensive academic monitoring for its students by means of semester reviews and mid-term progress reports.
- Tutoring
The SSP program provides individual tutoring opportunities for active SSP participants. We encourage you to take advantage of tutoring opportunities provided by the program regardless of how well you may be doing in class.
- Peer Mentoring
The peer mentoring program of SSP is designed to help new SSP students in making the transition to college. All new SSP students are assigned a peer mentor who will meet with them on a regular basis and monitor their progress.
- Cultural Events
SSP sponsors cultural events at least once a semester. These events are free to SSP participants.
- Laptop Loaner Program and Lending Library
Because many SSP participants do not have access to their own computers, laptops are available for two-day loans. Books on a variety of topics are available for two-week loans.
