Upcoming Events

Hispanic Heritage Month celebration continues on Monday October 1st

Campus Life invites the University community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday, October 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the SXU Diner atrium. Come enjoy performances by Our Lady of Guadalupe Folkloric Dancers that celebrate and reflect on the culture of Mexico. Lunch will be served!

Across the centuries, Mexico’s rich culture, which enfolds the traditions of ancient civilizations like the Aztecs, Mayas and Teotihuacans, has emphasized dancing for different purposes. Mexican dance marks religious ceremonies, festivities, rituals and artistic expression. We know that you will enjoy these modern interpretations of ancient traditions.

Second annual Ramadan Dinner scheduled for Monday, October 1st

Saint Xavier’s Muslim Student Association (MSA) will host the second annual Ramadan Dinner on Monday, October 1, at 6 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room. The Middle Eastern dinner will be followed by a presentation on Islam and Ramadan. Sheikh Kifah Mustapha from Bridgeview Mosque Foundation and Sheikh Nazir Chahin from Orland Park Prayer Center will speak to attendees.

This dinner will also mark the breaking of the fast for those who participate in the Fast-a-Thon, an event during Ramadan in which non-Muslims pledge to fast for a day and are asked to donate a dollar to charity for each person who fasts.

Muslims and non-Muslims are all invited! Students, faculty, staff and friends of the University are welcome. If you plan to attend, please RSVP no later than Friday, September 28, to Haneen Abu-Ajamieh at h.abuajamieh@sxu.edu with your name and the number of people in your party.

We hope to see you there!
