Irene Claude




Irene Claude is a flutist and early childhood music and movement teacher. She 
currently teaches flute privately in her home studio and is the adjunct flute instructor and flute choir director at Saint Xavier University. She has taught flute for the DePaul University Community Music School, Merit School of Music, Music Institute of Chicago, Suzuki-Orff School for Young Musicians, Marian Catholic High School and Joseph Sears Elementary School. She has directed flute choirs for the Sherwood Conservatory Summer Flute Institute, as well as adjudicated for the Sherwood Conservatory Festival of Flutes and the Chicago Flute Club Student Competition.

Claude is second flutist with the Lake Forest Symphony and is substitute flutist with other Chicago orchestras, including Ars Viva, Chicago Sinfonietta, DuPage Opera Theatre, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Evanston Symphony, Illinois Chamber Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Kenosha Symphony, Light Opera Works, Lincoln Opera, Music of the Baroque, New Philharmonic, Northwest Indiana Symphony, Opera-a-la-Carte, Opera Factory, Opera San Benedetto and the South Bend Symphony. She is a member of the Greenwood Trio and performs regularly on Music Teachers of Hyde Park Artist Series.

In addition to performing and teaching flute, Claude is business manager and music together teacher for Marsha's Music. She has taught early childhood music and movement classes for Merit School of Music and was director of the St. Nicholas Children's Choir.

Claude received a master of music degree from DePaul University in 1996, studying with Mary Stolper, and a bachelor in musical arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, studying with Keith Bryan and Judith Bentley. She has also studied
 with Lyon Leifer, Kim Teal and Kazimierz Moszynski, and has played in master classes with William Bennett, Leone Buyse, Walfrid Kujala, Emmanuel Pahud, Donald Peck and Trevor Wye. She has completed Suzuki pedagogy studies in Books 1-5 with Pandora Byrce, David Gerry and Toshio Takahashi, and she has received Level I Certification from Music Together and Orff Schulwerk Level I Teacher Training.
