Women's Ensemble

The University Women's Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jan Bickel, splits off from the University Chorale in order to study and perform both sacred and secular repertoire specifically written or arranged for women's voices in two or more parts. This ensemble welcomes SXU students, faculty, staff and talented community members.

When active, they present at least one concert per semester in addition to performances requested on and off campus.  The ensemble collaborates with the University Men's Ensemble for joint concert appearances. The singers rehearse on Monday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.

They have given multimedia presentations of music composed by women composers for women's choir and frequently performed the chants of Hildegard von Bingen with narration and slides of her artwork. Other composers performed include Johannes Brahms, Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten, Gwyneth Walker, Imant Raminsh and Cecilia Clare Boccard.
